About

NANCY HAMMOND is a painter who loves water life.

Living waterside, she takes note of all things Chesapeake.

“The challenge of capturing the Chesapeake is to catch the sweep of it while still catching the small bits.” says Hammond.

Design is the added element in Hammond’s work
which brings it a contemporary tone.

Favored by yachtsmen, her work has been well received by art critics.

ABOUT NANCY

Nancy Hammond’s hometowns were Schenectady and Skaneateles, one of the Finger Lakes in upstate New York. Summers were spent on Murray Isle on the St. Lawrence River.

For many years, she cruised the Chesapeake on the sloop “Northern Spy”. In the winter, she often sought refuge in the Caribbean and British Virgin Islands.

Majoring in Painting at the Rhode Island School of Design, her work has since been chosen to be exhibited in galleries, Baltimore Museum of Art and Maryland Institute of Art.

RANGE

Her work began with a series of silk-screened prints. Now her designs can be found on a variety of custom goods from silk neckties to etched crystal bowls and wine glasses, hand etched paperweights, linen tea towels and embroidered hats.

Notecards and Christmas cards are favorites of her patrons. The Nancy Hammond Christmas card collection has new designs every year with innovative greetings.

ANNUAL POSTER

The annual poster of Annapolis, signed and numbered, created a phenomenon. Now the annual Chesapeake poster, this tradition had lines forming outside the gallery door for many years on the morning of its release.

These hardy patrons, often in beach chairs, wrapped in blankets to fend off the October cold, waited to be one of the first to buy this limited edition. Hot coffee and treats were served as more joined the line while dawn was breaking.

Today, the annual Chesapeake poster is still released online every October. For the latest poster release, please click here.

HER WORKS

The Nancy Hammond limited edition print collection is ever evolving. It is shown at her gallery, Nancy Hammond Editions in the Annapolis Arts District.
