Heron in Saltwater Marsh
A New Work by Nancy Hammond
This heron is full height which stretches out his neck and body and makes him long and lean.
He is in the company of a spiky plant, an umbrella sedge.
(I’ve seen this sedge plant in both brackish water and freshwater marshes.)
It has shoots that look like a broken umbrella.
This is a study of graceful verticals which fill the page.
The neutral spaces, (the air) is an important component of this sparse painting.
